Instructional Designer, North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS)

Dr. Chris Smith is a seasoned educator and educational technologist with over 23 years of education experience currently serving as an Instructional Designer for North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS). He also serves as a Co-Chair for the NCTIES Board of Directors' Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee on the North Carolina Accessible Educational Materials Leadership Team and helps to moderate the Quality Matters Accessibility and Usability Resource Site. Recognized nationally for his expertise in accessibility Dr. Smith has led the development of North Carolina Virtual Public School's comprehensive accessibility plan now part of the CITES Virtual Learning Project. He has significantly improved educational experiences for thousands of North Carolina students annually including those with IEPs through innovative accessible learning solutions. Dr. Smith has presented on accessibility at numerous conferences consulted with universities on complex accessibility challenges and directly supported students and educators at specialized schools for the blind and deaf.
